DBasia.news – Manchester City lost to Manchester United in the semi-final second leg, despite that, Manchester City still qualified for the English League Cup final. The defeat surprised De Bruyne.
City collapsed when hosting Manchester United in the League Cup semi-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium, Thursday (1/30/2020) AM. The Citizens lost 0-1 after MU made a goal through Nemanja Matic.
Throughout the match, City created a number of opportunities to score goals. Pep Guardiola’s team recorded 13 shots, four of which were aimed at the goal. While MU only made six shots and only two were on target.
However, David De Gea appeared adequate by thwarting a number of City’s opportunities. MU goalkeeper was recorded to have made four rescue. City also had scored two goals that were equally disallowed for being offside.
De Bruyne believes MU had no opportunity that really endangered City’s goal. Because of that, he was puzzled that City was able to lose.
“I don’t really understand how we can lose. For me, Manchester United didn’t have a chance today. In the end, it’s good that we escaped,” De Bruyne told Sky Sports.
“I think we were careless. When goals were created, we didn’t kick the ball well and suddenly they made a goal. You can tell me if they had another chance because I don’t remember.”
“We fight when we have to do so and will learn from mistakes. If we win the final, no one will talk about this match.”
“The final is a beautiful day and we will fight to win the trophy. If we do so, it will be fun,” he added.
Despite losing, City still qualifies for the English League Cup final. Pep Guardiola’s team are 3-2 on aggregate after winning 3-1 in the first leg.
In the final round, City will face Aston Villa, who qualified for the top party after getting rid of Leicester City. The final match will be held at Wembley Stadium on March 1, 2020.
