De Gea Optimistic Can Maintain Main Position of Manchester United Goalkeeper

DBasia.news – David De Gea spoke up regarding the polemic of Manchester United’s main goalkeeper next season. He was optimistic that the status (main goalkeeper) would still belong to him.

De Gea’s status as Manchester United’s main goalkeeper was shaken throughout the 2019-2020 season. This is inseparable from a series of fatal blunders that he made that harmed The Red Devils.

The Spanish goalkeeper was bombarded with criticism. His performance is considered to have decreased significantly and is no longer worthy of guarding Manchester United’s goal.

On the other hand, Dean Henderson, who was loaned to Sheffield United, appeared stunning. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has conceded three fewer goals than De Gea in the Premier League.

No wonder Henderson is tipped to become Manchester United’s main goalkeeper next season. The player is even confident enough to compete directly with De Gea.

Even so, De Gea was reluctant to respond to these rumors. He chose to focus on returning his best performance.

“I believe in myself. I have shown my quality over the years, so I remain available to the manager,” De Gea said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“I’m always ready to play and try to help the team as usual.”

De Gea also responded to the scorn related to his appearance when Manchester United defeated Sevilla in the semi-finals of the Europa League. For this tournament, Solskjaer usually plays Sergio Romero more often.

The Spanish national team goalkeeper said the decision was the manager’s authority. He just tries to show his best in training.

“I’ve always wanted to play and know that possibility. Just like every other game, the manager has a team in mind,” he concluded.
