DBasia.news – Premier League giants, Manchester United, through their official website have confirmed they have parted ways with one of the senior goalkeepers, Lee Grant. The 39-year-old goalkeeper decided to retire as a professional football player.
Lee Grant joined Manchester United in 2018. During his four years with Manchester United, Grant has only appeared twice in competitive matches. The minimal playing opportunities is understandable as Grant is only the third goalkeeper for the Red Devils.
Now at the age of 39 years old, Grant finally decided to retire. Grant considered his decision to retire was right as the time had come for him to step aside from the gridiron. However, Grant admitted that he was proud to have been part of the Red Devils squad.
“After 511 appearances, I decided it was the right time to move on to the next stage of my career,” said Grant.
“There are so many fun moments mixed with weird challenges, but I’m grateful for every single one of them.”
“Fulfilling a childhood dream of playing for Man United was something I thought was beyond reach, so to achieve that makes me proud and emotional!”
“Even though I haven’t played many games in the last four years, I have given everything for the group every day on the training pitch and in the dressing room. The opportunity to join the biggest club in the world is one I could never turn down and I am grateful for the lessons I have learned and the friends I have gained.”
“The opportunity to challenge, set the standard and ultimately learn from some truly outstanding players and staff has been invaluable.”
