Defeated at Saint-Etienne Headquarters, Lyon Returns Emptyhanded

DBasia.news –  The match held in the ninth week, Olypique Lyon slumped in the French League after losing painfully by a score of 0-1 against Saint-Etienne at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.

The defeat was confirmed by a late goal scored by Robert Beric right in the 90th minute to break the deadlock from a match that lasted with minimal opportunities, according to the official page of the French League.

The result has made Sylvinho’s team have now passed seven French league games without ever being able to win.

On the contrary, for Saint-Etienne the result was a sweet debut for their new manager’s debut match Claude Puel who was appointed two days ahead of the match against Lyon, which is often called the Rhone-Alphis Derby.

The victory at the same time has brought Saint-Etienne to 13th, including passing Lyon (11), who is now a place below his opponent.

The game progressed quite slowly and the statistics recorded that there were only six shots on target, four of which were owned by the host.

The first chance on target was achieved in the 20th minute when Ryad Boudebouz tried to complete Zaydou Youssouf’s pass but was still tamed by goalkeeper, Anthony Lopes.

Lyon responded back through Memphis Depay’s free kick which unfortunately still deviated from the target in the 35th minute.

Attack after attack were passed without satisfactory results until finally in the 90th minute, Boudeboux sent a cross which was successfully greeted by Beric’s header to tear Lyon’s goal.

The injury time lasted eight minutes and Lyon tried to respond through Moussa Dembele’s header to welcome Kenny Tete’s cross but the ball went off to the left side of the goal.

The 1-0 score did not change until the match ended, ensuring Saint-Etienne’s victory while Lyon had to go home empty-handed.
