Defeated by Aston Villa, Liverpool carves a minor History

DBasia.news – Liverpool made history after losing 2-7 to Aston Villa in the fourth week of the Premier League 2020-2021.

Taking place at Villa Park on week four of the Premier League, Monday (05/10) am, WIB, Liverpool surprisingly lost 2-7 to Dean Smith’s team. Liverpool dominated 70 percent of the ball but were inefficient as Villa scored seven goals from their 11 shots on target.

Two Liverpool goals were scored by Mohamed Salah (33 ‘and 60′) while Villa’s seven goals were born from a hat-trick of Ollie Watkins (4 ’22’ and 39 ‘), two goals from Jack Grealish (66’ 75 ‘) and John McGinn (35 ‘) and Ross Barkley (55’).

The defeat happened unexpectedly with Liverpool’s status as the defending Premier League champions, plus the fact that Villa were a team that came close to relegation last season and finished 17th in the standings.

“It has to be in the top ranks to achieve a performance and results like that against an extraordinary team,” said Smith as quoted from Dailymail. “It takes something special. It was a special performance from the players tonight.”

“I am very proud. We executed the game plan perfectly. It was not just a game plan but a level of work, work ethic.”

“If you were defeated by Liverpool you will be defeated. They are an incredible pressing team. I am proud of every player who played in that match.”

Liverpool has also set a new record. Not an expected record, the Reds according to Opta became the first team after Arsenal, who were the defending champions of the Premier League (or England’s top league) who lost by conceding seven goals.

Liverpool made a minor record to repeat a dark incident 67 years ago, aka in September 1953. At that time Arsenal lost 1-7 to Sunderland with the status of defending league champions.

“There’s nothing I can say to help that outcome, so why should I be so furious?” said Klopp.

“Is it a one-time? I want to think so but the evidence will be there in the next few weeks or months. Games like that shouldn’t happen, 100 percent.”

“It is not a personal defeat but it is a huge defeat. It is important how we react. The only problem is we cannot react tomorrow (due to the international break).”

“These players are very critical of themselves and they know everyone has a share in this result. We have to face it – and we will face it,” concluded Klopp.
