Defeated by Manchester City, Arsenal Criticize the Referee and VAR

DBasia.news – Arsenal assistant manager, Albert Stuivenberg revealed the reason his team lost to Manchester City last night. He said the inconsistent refereeing decisions cost them.

Arsenal failed to score points after losing 2-1 to Manchester City in the 2021-2022 Premier League match, at the Emirates Stadium, Saturday (1/1). In fact, Arsenal had won first.

Initially, Arsenal closed the first half with a 1-0 advantage after Bukayo Saka scored a goal in the 31st minute. However, Man Ciy rose in the second half.

Riyad Mahrez equalized from the penalty spot in the 57th minute. Then, Gabriel got a red card two minutes later. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s winning goal was produced by Rodri at the end of the match. The midfielder took advantage of the chaos in front of Arsenal’s goal.

After the match, Stuivenberg highlighted the leadership of the referee. According to him, many decisions are detrimental to Arsenal.

“There were several decisive moments in this match. You have to pay attention to what happened with Odegaard in the first half,” said Stuivenberg as reported by Football London.

“I think we deserved a penalty for that foul. At the very least, the referee should use VAR to confirm the situation,” he added.

Stuivenberg’s disappointment increased after Manchester City who actually got a penalty in the second half. According to him, the situation is similar to that experienced by Odegaard.

“I saw the same situation happen in the second half. However, the difference is that Manchester City got a penalty. So, the referee was very inconsistent.”

With this result, Arsenal is in fourth place in the standings with 35 points from 20 matches. Meanwhile, Manchester City are firmly at the top after collecting 53 points from 21 matches.
