Defeating LASK, Manchester United Qualifies for the Europa League Quarter-finals

DBasia.news – Manchester United managed to beat LASK with a narrow score of 2-1 in the second leg of the top 16 of the 2019-2020 Europa League season at Old Trafford, Thursday (6/8) AM. The winning result succeeded in bringing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad through to the quarter-finals.

The match was like a formality for Manchester United. The five-goal win without reply in the first meeting in February was the cause.

So it’s not surprise that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of Manchester United played many coating players as starters. Practically, Harry Maguire became the only core player to play from the first minute.

Playing many substitute players has made Manchester United’s game unstable. They almost scored quickly if Maguire’s header in the fourth minute did not widen.

But after that, LASK was able to provide balanced resistance. The Austrian team even dominated in possession.

The first half went slow. Not many opportunities were created which made the 0-0 score last until the break.

The match was more interesting in the second half. Manchester United and LASK increased the tempo of the game and appeared more open.

LASK was surprisingly able to take the lead when the second half was ten minutes in. Philipp Wiesinger’s hard kick from outside the penalty box using a rebound ball was unable to be blocked by Sergio Romero.

The goal was the first suffered by Manchester United in a Europa League home game this season. Since the group phase, no visitors have been able to score at Old Trafford.

However, LASK’s advantage only lasted two minutes. Jesse Lingard made a balanced position in the 57th minute through an individual action to continue Juan Mata’s bait.

In the remaining matches, Manchester United began to take control of the game. The entry of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial added to the force to break into the home team.

Manchester United were finally able to score the winning goal with two minutes of normal time remaining. Martial defeated the LASK goalkeeper from close range using Mata’s pass.

The 2-1 score lasted until the game was over. Manchester United advanced to the quarter-finals on 7-1 aggregate.
