Defeating Leeds 6-0, Klopp claims Liverpool could’ve won with a bigger score

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is very satisfied with his team’s victory over Leeds United in the Premier League. However, he thinks the Reds should’ve been able to win with a bigger score.

Liverpool hosted Leeds United in the Premier League match, at Anfield Stadium, Thursday (24/2) morning WIB. The Reds need three points to close the gap with the leaders, Manchester City.

As a result, Liverpool appeared fierce by gaining six goals. Liverpool’s goalscorers were Mohamed Salah (15′ W, 35′ W), Joel Matip (30′), Sadio Mane (80′, 90′) and Virgil van Dijk (90+3′).

“We finished the game pretty well. Apart from that, we also played great football,” Klopp explained on Liverpool’s official website.

“I think the longer the game goes on, the better we will use the width of the pitch. Then, with the way Leeds defended, it’s obviously very difficult to win all the one-on-one battles against them.”

“Fortunately, we got a great goal and could pack even more. So, yes, I am thrilled with our performance,” said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

In addition to the front row, Klopp also praised Liverpool’s challenging defensive performance. According to him, a strong defense is the foundation to win.

“In addition to liking all the goals we scored tonight, I also liked the clean sheet. What we do is based on a well-organized defensive performance,” said Klopp.

“Without it, we are still a good football team. However, with that we can become a successful football team,” added Klopp.

Now, Liverpool are only three points behind Manchester City who are at the top of the standings. Next, Mohamed Salah and his team will challenge Chelsea in the English League Cup final, at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (27/2).
