Dejan Lovren Officially Joins Lyon

DBasia.news – Former Liverpool centre-back, Dejan Lovren has joined Lyon from Zenit Saint-Petersburg on a two-and-a-half year contract.

The 33-year-old defender played for Lyon for three seasons before moving to Southampton and Liverpool.

Lovren helped guide the Reds to their first Premier League win since 1992 in 2020 and also lifted the Champions League trophy in 2019.

He was the Zenit captain who won the Russian Premier League in the last two seasons.

“I am thrilled to be back at Lyon, the club that opened the doors to international football for me,” Lovren said after officially joining.

“When I left (from Lyon) in 2013, I regretted not showing what I could do. I wanted to prove to everyone what kind of player I was,” said the Croatian national team defender.

Lyon had just appointed Laurent Blanc as their coach last October. They are currently eighth in the Ligue 1 standings or nine points from the Champions League zone and 20 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon was also recently acquired by American business group, Eagle Football just before Christmas and Blanc is certain to receive transfer funds to build up his squad.
