DFB Regretted Ozil
By news-admin
DBasia.news – The resignation decision of Mesut Ozil from Germany national team is still trending until now. The issue takes so long because the public isn’t only relating it with Ozil’s performance on the pitch, but also the racialism and political issue.
As concerned, after taking a picture with Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Cenk Tosun, and Ilkay Gundogan, the news about Ozil and Gondugan in Germany became worse. They were considered disrespect Germany where they grew. Ozil and Gundogan were born in Germany, but they have Turkey blood.
The critic was getting more intense after the failure of Germany in the 2018 World Cup, summed up with Ozil’s resignation with 92 caps and 23 goals, also his 2014 World Cup title with Germany. In his statement, Ozil felt not appreciated and used as the racist attacks target.
DFB’s president Reinhard Grindel was also guilty for creating public opinion by asking Ozil to explain about his photo with Erdogan. Grindel admitted that he regretted the decision to not supporting Ozil.
“I should have positioned myself more clearly given the racist attacks from some corners and I should have put myself in front of Mesut Ozil. Such attacks are unacceptable. I should have found clear words. I am sorry he feels let down by the DFB,” Grindel told Bild.
“But it is important to emphasize that after the World Cup, I never commented on his performances. It was always clear for me that we win together and we lose together. It would be absurd to blame one single player for our elimination,” he continued.
Grindel also clarified his statement asking Ozil for an explanation about the photo with Erdogan.
“After the photos with president Erdogan, Ilkay Gundogan made a clear statement. I would have liked that also from Ozil because I know from conversations with fans that they also had questions about it,” Grindel added.
“However, this must not be misunderstood as a criticism of his playing performance. I would have liked such an explanation even if we ended up winning the World Cup,” he concluded. But there’s no turning back. Whatever it is, Ozil’s decision to resign won’t change.
