DBasia.news – President of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Nasser Al-Khelaifi responded to his team’s failure to advance further in the 2021-2022 Champions League with emotion. The Qatari tycoon went to the referee’s locker room.
Al-Khelaifi witnessed PSG’s 1-3 defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of the last 16 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Thursday (10/3) early morning WIB. Les Parisiens lost 2-3 on aggregate.
PSG had the upper hand after winning 1-0 in the first half through Kylian Mbappe’s goal. But Madrid then made a slick comeback which was marked by a Karim Benzema hat-trick.
Al-Khelaifi accused PSG’s defeat of being caused by a controversial refereeing decision. He highlighted the unmistakable clash of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Benzema and started Madrid’s first goal.
After the referee blew the long whistle signaling the end of the match, Al-Khelaifi’s emotions were unstoppable. He went to the referee’s dressing room to vent his anger.
This is known from the referee’s report after the match. The threat of severe sanctions now awaits Al-Khelaifi.
“He (Al-Khelaifi) behaved aggressively and tried to enter the referee’s dressing room. When the referee asked them to leave, the president hit the assistant’s equipment and damaged it,” the report read.
According to Marca’s report, Al-khelaifi vented his anger while shouting accompanied by Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director. the disgraceful act was recorded by a Madrid employee. This can be strong evidence to give to UEFA.
Al=khelaifi’s frustration is understandable. His hard efforts to bring in a row of first-class stars still couldn’t help PSG win the Champions League.
However, such commendable actions as reported by the referee also cannot be forgiven. It is very likely that heavy sanctions will be given if Al-Khelaifi is found guilty.
