Donnarumma: Don’t Hate Me When Defending Italy

DBasia.news – Gianluigi Donnarumma delivered a message before he parted ways to PSG. Branded as a traitor to the team, he accepts that the fans hate him. But the goalkeeper asked not to hate him while defending the Italian national team.

Donnarumma, as is well known, was branded by Rossoneri fans as a traitor for not being committed to the club, where he decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain instead of extending his stay at the San Siro.

After Donnarumma left Milan, he was replaced by Mike Maignan, who became one of the key figures behind the success of Stefano Pioli’s side in reaching the 2021/22 Scudetto.

Donnarumma has never regretted leaving the Rossoneri, but also congratulated his former club on the success of their 11-year wait.

“I think about myself and my team-mates. What people think [about a move to PSG] will not affect me,” said the talented Italian goalkeeper.

“I just believe that when I play for the Italian national team, you have to support Italy,” said Donnarumma.

On whether he regretted leaving Milan while the club had emerged victorious in Serie A, Donnarumma replied: “No.”

“I am happy with what Milan has achieved and I send a message to my team-mates there,” said the goalkeeper, who has won Euro 2020 with Italy.

Donnarumma himself is under contract by PSG until 2026.
