Donnarumma is tired of being PSG’s reserve goalkeeper

DBasia.news – Gianluigi Donnarumma honestly admits that he has not been comfortable since moving to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer. The lack of opportunity to appear is the main reason for these feelings.

Donnarumma was brought in by PSG on a free transfer after the goalkeeper’s contract with AC Milan ended. Les Parisiens won the competition with a number of other big clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old player.

Donnarumma hopes his career with PSG will continue to skyrocket. The opportunity to appear in the Champions League regularly is the main reason.

Having the capital as the best player for Euro 2020 added to Donnarumma’s confidence. However, an unexpected situation occurred after that.

PSG coach, Mauricio Pochettino did not automatically give Donnarumma the status of main goalkeeper. He still considers Keylor Navas worthy of the responsibility.

Initially Donnarumma accepted the fact that he had to sit on the bench more often. But now he is starting to be dissatisfied with this condition.

“It didn’t affect my performance, but it still ‘disturbed’ me,” Donnarumma told TNT Sport.

“The situation is not easy, because I’m used to always starting and sometimes it hurts to be on the bench. But I’m sure the situation will be resolved.”

So far, Donnarumma has only appeared seven times in all competitions. That’s just 38% of the number of games PSG have played.

From that minimal opportunity, Donnarumma’s appearance has also not been impressive. He has conceded seven goals and only kept two clean sheets.

These statistics are not much different from Navas who have conceded 12 times from eleven matches in all competitions. But Pochettino certainly has his own reasons regarding the selection of PSG’s main goalkeeper.
