Dutch Coach, Louis Van Gaal Leading to Substitute Frank De Boer

DBasia.news – Former Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, is reportedly a strong candidate to replace Frank de Boer as coach of the Dutch national team.

Dutch media, Algemeen Dagblad, reports that Van Gaal is projected to lead the Oranje squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

If Van Gaal accepts this offer, the 69-year-old coach will take charge of the Netherlands for the third time.

In the two previous seasons, Van Gaal coached the Netherlands in the 2000–2002 span when he failed to qualify for the Korea-Japan World Cup.

While the second period spans from 2012–2014. At that time, he coached Robin van Persie et al, sealing the third place in the World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, since being sacked by Man United at the end of the 2015/16 season, Van Gaal has not trained. He even decided to retire for family reasons in January 2017 even though it was only corrected as a “slack leave”.

On 12 March 2019, Van Gaal officially announced his retirement from football.

Last season, Van Gaal accepted the invitation of Dutch second-tier club Telstar to coach one match as a charity event. One lucky supporter was given the right to be his assistant during the match.
