Edouard Mendy becomes the Goalkeeper, Chelsea did not concede a single goal

DBasia.news – Chelsea is too tough for Crystal Palace. At the London Derby in the continued Premier League match the Blues won 4-0 over Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Dominating possession as much as 71 percent, Chelsea played with high intensity, scoring four goals from six shots on target and releasing 17 attempted kicks. The four Chelsea goals came from Ben Chilwell (50 ‘), Kurt Zouma (66’) and Jorginho’s two goals (78 ‘and 82’ from penalties).

Apart from Chilwell who made a neat record in his first match for Chelsea in the Premier League, plus scoring goals and providing assists, this match was also special for Edouard Mendy, who made his Premier League debut.

Edouard Mendy (28 years) was recruited by Chelsea from Stade Rennes this summer. Chelsea needed a goalkeeper because Kepa Arrizabalaga’s performance has been unconvincing since arriving from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 with a tag of 80 million euros (a world record).

Frank Lampard’s hesitation in the position of goalkeeper can be seen this season in the Premier League. Before Mendy came, Lampard played Kepa in turns with Willy Caballero and now he has used three goalkeepers (including Mendy).

Chelsea played four Premier League matches and Lampard played three goalkeepers. From William Hill’s records, Chelsea have used three different goalkeepers from the first four matches of the 2020-2021 Premier League and only recorded clean sheets once when Mendy kept the Chelsea goal.

It was a sign for Lampard to start giving a chance to play for Mendy instead of Kepa or Caballero. There is even a potential for Kepa or Caballero to leave if they don’t like the given playing hours.
