England Lost to Southgate Floods of Criticism

DBasia.news – Again, England suffered a poor result in the UEFA Nations League, making Gareth Southgate criticized. England must recognize Hungary’s superiority with a score of 0-4 at Molineux, Wednesday (15/6) early morning hrs.

This was the Three Lions’ worst home defeat in 94 years. Minor results also left England stranded at the bottom of Group 3 League A. Harry Kane and his friends have not won from four matches that have been played.

This defeat is in fact difficult for English fans to accept. Calls to sack Southgate were loud in the stadium and on social media.

The demand for dismissal from Southgate is surprising. Apart from the fact that the 2022 World Cup is getting closer, the tactician has worked very well since taking office in 2016.

This also made a Jamie Carragher furious. The former Liverpool captain, who is now working as an observer, considers the fans’ demands unreasonable.

“This manager (Southgate) has led this country to the best position in two major tournaments since 1966. The idea that Southgate is holding this group is nonsense,” Carragher said as quoted by Goal.

“This squad is no better than 2004-06, 1996-98. Southgate has been doing well, albeit with a favorable draw.”

Southgate has indeed succeeded in raising the level of the England national team. The status as a 2018 World Cup semifinalist and a 2020 European Cup finalist is proof of that.

Firing Southgate now is also not an ideal decision. England actually threatened to appear unsteady at the upcoming 2022 World Cup.

Southgate himself had his own defense of this humiliating defeat. He argued that the composition of the players who were revealed was not the strongest.

“We can’t pick the strongest team. In a game where every other manager is judged, we had the best performance for 50 years,” Southgate said.

“If we are judged on a game with a full strength team, it is a different assessment.”
