England women’s national team wins Euro 2022

DBasia.news – In the 2022 Women’s European Cup final, there was a meeting between the hosts of the England national team against the German national team.

Before the match started Wembley had already broken attendance records, with an attendance of more than 87,000 spectators. This shows the success of the tournament as well as the public’s great interest in women’s football.

No other European Cup match, whether in men’s or women’s, has attracted this much attention which ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. Midway through the match organizers confirmed an attendance of 87,192 – almost the full capacity at Wembley.

That amount even exceeds the Euro 2020 final between the England and Italy national teams which was also held at Wembley. The previous record was in 1964 with 79,115 fans attending the final between Spain and the Soviet Union at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid.

The final seemed to have been prepared for the victory of the team coached by Sarina Wiegman. One hour into the game England took the lead in the 62nd minute from Ella Toone’s goal, but Germany did not give up and towards the end of the second half, Lina Magull equalized in the 79th minute.

The game went into extra time and at that moment the 24-year-old Manchester City player, Chloe Kelly, scored the winner in the 110th minute. England won the European Cup with a 2-1 win over Germany.

According to Opta, the England women’s national team won the European Cup for the first time and became the fifth country to win it after Sweden, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands. For the first time Germany also lost in two matches against England in a row.
