DBasia.news – Lazio won their seventh Coppa Italia title after winning 2-0 against Atalanta at Stadio Olimpico, Thursday (16/5) WIB.
Lazio have reached the 10th Coppa Italia final and won seven Coppa Italia titles. The acquisition of the title is the same as Inter Milan and Lazio who are below Juventus (13 titles) and AS Roma (nine titles) as the team with the most wins of the Coppa Italia.
While Atalanta failed to win the first Coppa Italia title since reaching it in 1963. The final against Lazio was also their first final since 1996. Gian Piero Gasperini, coach of Atalanta, accepted the defeat, but highlighted the referee’s performance.
“We accept defeat, Lazio are a very good team, the match was balanced, but not with this incident that is unacceptable (the moment when Martde de Roon’s strike hit Bastos’s hand),” Gasperini told Sky Sports Italia.
“Maybe we also won’t win, but seeing this is very bad. It’s bad. We played the Coppa final with 21,000 fans. It showed a sign of disrespect to all Atalanta fans.”
The game was strict. Atalanta, who has scored 73 goals in Serie A – the sharpest team, controls possession reaching 53 percent versus 47 percent of Lazio. Throughout the game, they released 13 attempted kicks and only two were on target.
Lazio absorbed the offensive power of Alejandro “Papu” Gomez and mates. Relying on counterattacks and efficiency converting opportunities into goals, two new Lazio goals were created when the game broke up at the 82nd and 90th minute.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who had just played in the 78th minute replacing Luis Alberto, scored a goal through Pierluigi Gollini’s goal. Atalanta fell silent and Lazio took advantage of the momentum eight minutes later.
With a quick counter-attack from Atalanta’s free kick which failed to produce a goal, Joaquin Correa dribbled the ball past Remo Freuler and Gollini. The position was 2-0 and Inzaghi won his second title with Lazio after winning the Italian Super Cup in 2017.
“It was a wonderful night for the fans who were very great. We played the match well, but also thanked Atalanta, as it was a hard fight, just like in Serie A, and this time we changed the incident as we wish,” said Inzaghi.
