DBasia.news – The following is the final standings of Group E Euro 2020 where the Swedish national team dominates the top, and Spain finally qualify after being runners-up.
The last two Group E matches between Sweden vs Poland and Slovakia vs Spain were officially held on Wednesday (24/06) last night, with two teams successfully advancing to the next round.
Spain’s position had indeed been on the edge after failing to win in the first two matches. La Furia Roja is stuck in third place with two points from draws against Sweden and Poland.
This condition makes Spain appear aggressive against Slovakia. Meanwhile, the opponent who needed a draw to qualify chose to defend himself.
Spain almost broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after the referee awarded a penalty. The decision was made after Jakub Hromada violated Koke in the forbidden box.
Alvaro Morata then stepped up as the penalty taker. But his shot can be read well by Martin Dubravka.
This failure made Spain increasingly depressed. A number of other opportunities that had been recreated were wasted.
Luckily for Spain, a fatal mistake made Dubravka in the 30th minute. The Newcastle United goalkeeper actually scored an own goal after being less than perfect in parrying a wild ball from Pablo Sarabia’s shot that hit the post.
The goal seemed to remove a heavy burden on the shoulders of the Spanish players. As a result they were able to double their advantage through Aymeric Laporte’s header at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Spain increasingly craze. They scored three additional goals against Slovakia.
Sarabia changed the score to 3-0 in the 56th minute. Jordi Alba’s mature pass continued with a first time shot.
Ferran Torres who had just entered the field kept Spain’s advantage in the 67th minute. The Manchester City player’s beautiful backheel outwit Dubravka.
The host’s goal feast was then closed by Juraj Kucka’s own suicide who mistook Pau Torres’ header. Spain really re-discovered his killing instincts at the right time.
From other matches, Sweden established its position at the top of the standings. Janne Anderson’s team beat Poland with a narrow score of 3-2.
Emil Forsberg immediately brought Sweden ahead when the game had only been running for two minutes. Individual action outwit the Polish defense before releasing a hard shot horizontally.
Forsberg doubled Sweden’s lead in the 59th minute. This time his accurate shot continued Dejan Kulusevski’s pass darted smoothly into the corner of the goal.
Poland, who did not give up, had equalized through Robert Lewandowski’s two goals in the 61st and 84th minutes. However, Viktor Claesson’s goal in injury time ensured Sweden’s victory.
