Expected to be absent for Months, Virgil Van Dijk: I Will Come Back Stronger!

DBasia.news – Virgil van Dijk has finally spoken out since suffering an injury that allowed his season to end early after suffering ACL problems in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday, with the Liverpool center-back vowing to come back “better, fitter, and stronger than ever.”

The Dutch international defender had to be pulled out after a harsh attack from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford at the start of the match. He was immediately taken to the hospital for checks and a day later he visited a knee specialist for further tests.

Initial scans indicated Van Dijk had an injury in the ACL section, which practically ruled him out in the coming months.

Van Dijk’s injury is a major blow to Liverpool’s efforts to defend their first Premier League title, given the club has a fairly thin stock at the back.

However, via social media on Sunday (18/10) yesterday, the 29-year-old defender thanked supporters for their moral support and will repay their faith as he begins his long journey to recovery.

“This afternoon I met with a leading consultant to begin the process of planning the finer detail of my rehabilitation after yesterday’s events,” wrote Van Dijk on Twitter.

“I am now completely focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible.”

“Despite the obvious disappointments, I firmly believe that in adversity there will be opportunities and with God’s help, I will make sure I come back better, fitter and stronger than ever.”

“In football, as in life, I believe everything happens for a reason and it’s important to try and stay level-headed, whether it’s going through the highest or the lowest [moments]. With the support of my wife, kids, family and everyone at Liverpool, I am ready for the challenges ahead.”

“I want to thank everyone for the messages of support [conveyed]. This means a lot to me and my family, and now I will do everything to support my team-mates in any way I can in the next few weeks as I’m going to go through my own recovery process day by day. I’ll be back.”
