DBasia.news – Antoine Griezmann defended his Barcelona team-mate Ansu Fati after ABC’s match report on Tuesday night used deeply racist connotations when discussing the 17-year-old forward.
Ansu Fati scored and provided an assist as the Blaugrana clinched a 5-1 win over Ferencvaros, but the way ABC journalist Salvador Sostres described the Spain international caused outrage on social media.
“Ansu was running like a very young, black street salesman who you suddenly see running along the Paseo de Gracia when someone screams ‘Water, water’ announcing that the city guards have arrived,” wrote the Salvador Sostres report on ABC.
Griezmann joined those who publicly criticized Salvador Sostres’ paragraph, choosing to emphasize that Ansu Fati deserves respect.
“Ansu is an extraordinary boy who deserves respect like any human being, not for racism and not for a bad education,” Griezman wrote on his Twitter account.
The Frenchman’s tweet had a tremendous impact on social media, and in just 40 minutes received more than 1,200 responses, almost all of them praising his defense to Barcelona’s youth product.
The paragraph in the match report had caused a huge stir throughout the day, but no one from Barcelona stood up for Ansu Fati until Griezmann walked out to beg his team-mates homage.
Ansu Fati started the 2020-2021 season with an outstanding performance, scoring four goals and providing two assists in five matches in all competitions, while last season he played a total of 33 games, scoring eight goals and providing one assist.
