FA asks England to host the 2020 European Cup singles

DBasia.news – The English Football Association (FA) has persuaded the European Football Association (UEFA) to hold the European Cup (Euro) 2020 in England. The corona virus pandemic is a consideration for this request.

UEFA originally planned to hold the European Cup in 12 cities from various parts of the blue continent. However, this wish is in danger of being canceled if the corona virus pandemic does not end.

The corona virus outbreak has held back the 2020 European Cup finals for one year from the original schedule. The same problem is now likely to change the format of the tournament.

Organizing events in various countries is certainly risky during a pandemic. Apart from the difficulties in obtaining permits, the conditions of each country vary with the impact of this virus.

Similar conditions had forced UEFA to change the format of the Champions League and Europa League knockout stages last season. They replaced the home tournament system with a home tournament in one country only.

This policy is likely to be applied again at the European Cup. UEFA certainly does not want one of its biggest events to not run smoothly due to safety and health reasons.

Reporting from the Daily Mail, UEFA has had serious discussions with the English Football Federation (FA) regarding this plan. Later, the tournament will take place not only in England but also Scotland and Wales.

However, UEFA will still wait for the development of this pandemic before making a final decision. Meanwhile, the FA has given two months as the deadline for the appointment of the host.

“UEFA’s efforts are focused on planning tournaments in all 12 designated venues with fans. Decisions against that plan can be made more quickly if necessary, but currently there are no plans to change any of the venues,” said a UEFA spokesman.

England and Scotland are actually included in the list of 12 European Cup hosts. The semifinals and finals are even scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium.

However, if Great Britain is chosen to be the sole host, then Wales will accompany England and Scotland. The regions of the three countries that are on the same land will facilitate the mobility of the participating teams throughout the tournament.
