FA Cup Title Can Make Arsenal Defend Aubameyang

DBasia.news – Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta is still trying to extend the contract of its flagship striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.  He believes it will be more easily realized after winning the FA Cup 2019-2020.

Aubameyang’s contract with Arsenal remains one more year.  The Gabonese striker seems to be still hesitant to extend his contract after the Gunners appeared disappointing throughout the season.

Moreover, many big clubs are interested in Aubameyang, which makes Arsenal a dilemma between selling it this summer or continuing to defend it with the risk of losing the attacker for free next year.

Arteta seems to choose the second option.  He believes he can convince Aubameyang to extend his contract at Arsenal.

“Aubameyang still has a contract here and we want to keep it for the long term. Right now he is with us and he should be proud of this club.”  Arteta said as quoted by Goal.

Arsenal only finished eighth in the Premier League standings.  The London club will miss the Champions League for four successive seasons.

That fact makes Arsenal’s position is not strong enough to defend Aubameyang.  Therefore, the FA Cup trophy is the last way to persuade the former Borussia Dortmund striker to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

“Winning a trophy helps players to continue to hunger for the title. If you are the captain and you are able to lift the trophy, it will be a great moment and will certainly help him (to survive),” he added.

Arsenal are very close to winning the FA Cup trophy.  They only need to beat Chelsea in the final match which will take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (1/8) tomorrow.
