Fans Asked German National Team’s Manager to Resign

DBasia.news – Former Germany National Team player, Thomas Berthold, asked Oliver Bierhoff to leave his position as Der Panzer manager. Berthold believed that Bierhoff is the person behind Germany’s failure during the 2018 World Cup.

Germany performed poorly during the 2018 World Cup. As the former champion, Toni Kroos and friends had to give up during the group qualification phase.

No wonder, the result made some people wanted a big reshuffle within Germany’s body. One of the ideas is no longer using Mesut Ozil who played poorly during the competition.

Seems like not only the player competition, Germany also being asked to reform the managerial part. Germany considered too much looking for profit instead of achievement.

“The damage to our image is huge, and this is Oliver Bierhoff’s main responsibility. The now overdone commercialization and the alienation of the national team from fans and media is due to him,” said Berthold to Kicker.

“The manager must be gone. There needs to be a big cut in the national team, regardless of private ties or old merits,” he insisted.

Bierhoff is part of Germany when they reached the runner-up position in the 2002 World Cup. Previously, the player also contributed to Germany’s victory for the 1996 Europe Cup.

After retiring in 2003, he was appointed as the manager of the national team, back in 2004. Bierhoff had the main responsibility to keep the media relation.

“Back to professionals who do not view themselves too seriously. No polished little boys, but men with an unfulfilled hunger for success,” said Berthold.
