Fernando Torres Returns To Atlético As Academy Coach

DBasia.news – Fernando Torres for the third time back home to Atletico Madrid. This time he will carry out the role of academy coach.

Torres and Atletico’s relationship has had its ups and downs. He had become an idol of Los Rojiblancos supporters when he broke the record as the youngest captain (19 years) in the 2003-2004 season.

Torres’ background as a product of the original Atletico academy made him even more loved by the fans. Moreover, he became the focus of scoring goals.

But Torres made Atletico fans angry and hurt by accepting Liverpool’s proposal in the summer of 2007. He was considered to have no loyalty and money.

Torres then decided to return to Atletico in the winter of 2015. He was loaned out by AC Milan who had just made his status permanent from Chelsea.

Torres, who has entered the end of his career, remained at Atletico until 2018. When all parties thought the striker would retire, El Nino instead continued his career to Japan with Sagan Tosu until retiring one year later.

Two years after hanging up his boots, Torres returned to Atletico for the second time. He was appointed to the coaching staff of Atletico B in January 2021.

However, Torres’ tenure in his third spell at Athletico was very short. He asked permission to leave a month later for personal reasons.

Initially, Torres only permits for one month. Unfortunately, he did not return until the 2020-2021 season ended so his status became unclear.

Atletico finally gave certainty regarding the status of Torres. The legend returns home with a different task.

Torres is now officially appointed as coach of one of Atletico’s junior teams, Juvenil A. This team is an under-19 squad or one level below team B.

Handling the youth team became a stepping stone in Torres’ coaching career. This is indeed an obligation that must be fulfilled to get a UEFA Pro license.

If you already have a UEFA Pro license, Torres has the opportunity to handle the senior team. It is not impossible for him to be the successor to Diego Simeone.
