DBasia.news – Emiliano Sala died in a plane crash in January on his way from Nantes to Cardiff, after the two clubs agreed on a transfer for the Argentine striker. Cardiff City must pay 6 million euros to Nantes.
After the death, the two clubs failed to reach an agreement regarding a transfer fee of 15 million pounds so Nantes submitted the case to FIFA in April.
In a statement delivered Monday local time, FIFA stated, the FIFA Players Status Committee decided that Cardiff City FC must pay FC Nantes for 6,000,000 euros, the same as the first installment following the transfer agreement.”
A Cardiff City spokesman responded, “Cardiff City FC is aware of the decision announced today by the FIFA Players Status Committee regarding Emiliano Sala’s transfer.”
“We will seek further clarification from FIFA regarding the true understanding of their statement as an effort to make the right decision for our steps later.”
Sources told ESPN that Cardiff City would seek clarification as to whether FIFA’s decision was for a double installment or a final fee. Instead, Nantes has not commented on FIFA’s announcement.
Last April, Nantes called on FIFA to intervene after Cardiff City did not pay the first installment of the full transfer fee.
FIFA initially gave the clubs an April 3rd deadline to provide data but the deadline was extended after Cardiff wrote to Nantes in March because it wanted to clear up internal matters first. Both clubs failed to agree so FIFA must intervene.
Nantes wants full payment for Sala, otherwise, Cardiff considers the transfer to be canceled because several criteria in the original contract were not met. Nantes was determined and Sala was already a Cardiff player when the accident took his life.
Both clubs were given 10 days to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, ESPN said.
