DBasia.news – Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, was only able to smile when Roberto Firmino was considered offside by VAR (Video Assistant Referee). Klopp thinks the VAR has not been fair.
Liverpool won 2-1 over Aston Villa despite being left behind first. Goals from Andrew Robertson and Sadio Mane has made the Reds secure three points.
Indeed, Liverpool had scored another goal through the action of Roberto Firmino. The goal began with Sadio Mane’s cross. Firmino perfectly struck the ball into the goal.
However, the goal was disallowed as the line judge considered the Brazilian national team player was in an offside position. The decision were strengthened using VAR.
In replays, the distance between Firmino and Aston Villa defender appeared thin. However, an official statement from the Premier League shed some light to the matter.
The Premier League on its Twitter account explained Firmino’s underarm was in front of the last Aston Villa player when Mane sent the bait. Which means, even though not his whole body was in front of the last opponent’s player, Firmino is still trapped offside.
“What did you say? His underarm (offside)? We won 2-1, so the incident was not too serious,” Klopp explained as reported by Goal.
Jurgen Klopp rates, the wrong decisions from VAR can have a long impact on several things. For example, a club can fire a manager because they continue to achieve negative results.
“However, what we are discussing is a serious problem. It is not appropriate to talk about this, there are others who laugh at it,” said Klopp.
“To be honest, there is nothing worth laughing at. There are managers who can be fired for losing a match. I don’t want to make a big deal off it. We just want the situation to be clear and won’t accuse anyone of being the ringleader.”
Liverpool are still six points ahead of their nearest opponent, Manchester City. Interestingly, the two teams will face each other in the Week 12 match.
