Former Chelsea Player Reportedly Interested In Playing for China National Team

DBasia.news – Shanghai SIPG midfielder Oscar currently has been competing in the Chinese league for three years since 2017. The 28-year-old player claims to enjoy his life in China and is interested in defending the Chinese national team.

The Chinese Super League title and the Chinese FA Super Cup have been won by Oscar there. Despite of the public criticisms that he ‘threw away’ his career in Europe by leaving Chelsea, Oscar continued to enjoy his career with Shanghai SIPG.

At international level Oscar have played 47 times with the Brazilian national team and scored 12 goals. Oscar should not be able to play for other national teams because FIFA rules firmly say that players who have defended the senior national team cannot change to other senior national team.

Nevertheless it did not reduce the interest of the Sao Paulo academy product to defend the Chinese national team. Oscar openly thought about the opportunity to change citizenship from Brazil to China.

“Of course I can think about it because it’s difficult to go to the Brazilian national team now because I’m here (China), but in China everyone sees how good I play,” Oscar told Sportscene.

“The Chinese national team needs a good midfielder, so I think I can help with that. I like China, but the players now going to China to change their citizenship, they can do better too.”

Oscar made his debut for Brazil in 2011 when he was still strengthening Internacional. In 2012 he moved to Chelsea and was predicted to have a bright future until he was called up in the Brazil squad at the 2014 World Cup. However, after that he was not called again.
