DBasia.news – Frank Lampard, the Chelsea manager, recalled the 0-4 defeat at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s headquarters, ahead of the clash of the two teams later in the 2019-20 League Cup quarter-finals.
At the first meeting of the two teams in the opening match of the Premier League which took place at Old Trafford, Chelsea lost 0-4 to Man United. The two teams clashed again in the quarter-finals of the League Cup which took place on October 28, 2019. This time at Stamford Bridge.
Man United went into the quarter-finals after winning the 5-3 shootout against Rochdale, after the match ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time. While Chelsea drove easily through a 7-1 victory over Grimsby Town at Stamford Bridge.
“I just watched the penalty (United vs Rochdale). This (United vs Chelsea) is a big draw, two big teams and I’m glad we played at home. We’ll see,” said Lampard, launching from BBC Sport.
“I think a lot of things can happen in football in a short amount of time. The next round will not be played tomorrow. We have to appreciate the fact that they have good players.”
“They (Man United) beat us 0-4, so I certainly won’t talk here and speak ill of Man United. The match will be difficult, and the beauty of the final result on Wednesday night (against Grimsby) makes the match seem easy to win.”
Although Chelsea is seeded with the status of the host and good performance, Lampard refused to underestimate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United.
“Games like this can be difficult and I prefer, from a distance and not watching the match, give appreciation to Rochdale for being able to fight them (up to a penalty shootout). Man United will bring a strong team here,” explained Lampard.
