DBasia.news – Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard admitted Timo Werner’s performance with or without the ball was not optimal when his team was beaten by Arsenal 3-1.
Werner has now scored in ten games in all competitions for the Blues and was replaced in the second half by Callum Hudson-Odoi who was 2-0 down.
The change did not mean anything because in the end the Gunners still won 3-1.
Werner is currently undergoing the longest goalless period at club level since 2016, the German star appeared to be struggling to adapt at Stamford Bridge while Lampard has high hopes for the German international player.
“Obviously, goals are not the only factor judging an attacker,” said Lampard when asked about Werner after the match.
“As for the substitutions, I could have done more, but I felt I had to make changes in two areas to increase my energy.”
“Today Timo was not optimal, with or without the ball. Sometimes we have to give time. I always say this because the Premier League is different but he also has to adapt quickly.”
“We’ll see if there is a fatigue factor. I’ll talk to him. But I do feel that I have to make changes in this match.”
