Fred proves that he’s not afraid to face criticism

DBasia.news – Manchester United won 1-0 over Crystal Palace in Week 15 of the Premier League at Old Trafford, Sunday (05/12) night WIB. It was the perfect debut for new manager, Ralf Rangnick.

Man United showed a change in terms of playing style: diligent in pressing, controlling in possession and defended well. Game control was something Rangnick wanted.

The only goal in the match was scored by Fred in the 77th minute. Receiving an assist from Mason Greenwood, Fred lobbed the ball past Palace goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita and gave the Red Devils victory.

Judging from data from StatmanDave, Fred has the following statistics against Palace: 95 total touches to the ball, 83% accuracy in passing the ball, 16 duels for the ball (10 wins), 10 passes in the opponent’s defence, nine tackle attempts (seven successes), two kick (one goal).

“Fred has a kick like that every year. Everyone is happy for him because he’s a good guy, he also works the most, he’s someone that nobody talks about much. He deserves the credit he’s getting at the moment,” said Man United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.

Answering Criticism

Signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for 47 million pounds, Fred’s career journey at United has not been smooth. His performances were inconsistent, often criticized (especially by Roy Keane), and his performances were highlighted.

In the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era there was even the term McFred as Solskjaer always played Fred with Scott McTominay, so Donny van de Beek were rarely played.

But Fred has shown that lately he is working hard and putting in good performances. United full-back Diogo Dalot labeled Fred an underdog, an unseeded performer.

“He’s (Fred) the underdog. Everyone can criticize him but he keeps a clear head and goes on the pitch, every game he gives everything he has and that’s the goal of this club.

“Even if you lose the ball or lose a shot on goal you will always try the next one and you will always fight for the team and that’s what we want. That’s the kind of player we want.”
