Gasperini doesn’t want Atalanta to be connected with the potential to achieve the Scudetto
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Gian Piero Gasperini feels that the topic of discussion regarding the chance of Atalanta winning the Scudetto Serie A this season is excessive and unrealistic.
Atalanta has the opportunity to chase Juventus in the 2019/20 season title hunt, with them now just six points away from the defending champions at the top of the table.
Actually the difference in points could have been less, if Atalanta did not slip at Hellas Verona headquarters on Saturday (7/18), where they were forced to draw 1-1.
For Gasperini, the Scudetto is not the target of his team, but rather to secure a place towards the Champions League next season, or the second season after their debut this year.
“We are just one point away from securing a place in the Champions League for next season,” the 62-year-old man told Sky Sport Italia when asked whether a draw against Verona affected the chance for a Scudetto.
“A good performance against a team that wants to prove themselves after the controversial defeat of [AS] Roma. We lacked sharpness in the first half and then Verona reacted well after our goal. We should have killed the match, but the draw in Verona was a good result. “
“Since the competition has resumed, we have achieved results that are worthy of competing on the Scudetto track, but that is not our target at all. Maybe we can only regret a few bad results in the first round of the season, but talking about the Scudetto is excessive.”
“I see the same Atalanta today. We are not a fast team, but our drawback today was the quality in the final third, because we did create many opportunities.”
