DBasia.news – Former AC Milan defender, Gennaro Gattuso, has been officially appointed as the new coach of Valencia, this is his first experience in the Spanish League.
There is excitement in the air at the Mestalla, after Valencia CF have confirmed the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as their new coach, replacing Jose Bordalas. The Italian was one of the best midfielders in the world during his career, and has also achieved some success as a coach, and he wants to bring Valencia back to the highest tier of European football.
Born in the south of Italy, Gattuso began his playing career at Perugia and then Scottish club Rangers, before signing for AC Milan and becoming an important player for the Rossoneri during his 13 years playing there, between 1999 and 2012.
He won several trophies at Milan, including two Champions League titles, and also lifted the World Cup with the Italian national team in 2006.
After finishing his playing career with Sion, Gattuso then took over as coach of the Swiss club midway through the 2012/13 season. Although he had been studying to be a soccer coach for some time, it was a pretty sudden start to his managerial career.
However, Gattuso embraced the role and worked his way towards the pinnacle of Italian football over the next decade, starting as a coach at OFI Crete in Greece, and Palermo and Pisa in Italy.
In 2017, Gattusso returned to AC Milan to coach the Rossoneri youth academy. Then, he did such a good job that he was appointed first-team coach when Vincenzo Montella was sacked by Milan in November 2017.
Gattuso provided consistency at AC Milan, and served as coach until the summer of 2019, before taking over at Napoli midway through the 2019/20 season, and leading the Partenopei to a spectacular victory in the 2019/20 Coppa Italia.
