DBasia.news – Bernardo Silva received criticism after giving the Guard of Honor before the Manchester City match against Liverpool in the 2019-2020 Premier League continued on Friday (3/7). The criticism was obtained after being caught on camera doing this procession half-heartedly.

Guard of Honor is a respect symbol form for the champion which has become a culture in English football. The opposing team formed a line and applauded to welcome the champions into the field.

Certainty of Liverpool winning the Premier League since last week forced Manchester City to give the Guard of Honor. This is quite ironic as The Citizens are the defending champions and the main rival of The Reds.

This is what seems still unacceptable for Bernardo Silva. He was seen not clapping and out of line when not all Liverpool players passed him.

This is then went viral on social media. Bernardo Silva was immediately bombarded by many Liverpool supporters.

Before the match, Jurgen Klopp did not expect Manchester City to give Guard of Honor to his team. Physical distancing protocols indeed made this procession difficult.

“This is a tradition from England and is a good gesture. I don’t need it because we just want to play football and not celebrate, but that’s good,” Klopp said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

In the match, Manchester City were able to conquer Liverpool with an absolute score of 4-0. Bernardo Silva appeared from the bench in the 79th minute replacing Raheem Sterling.
