DBasia.news – Chelsea failed to win when they hosted Leicester City at Stamford Bridge in Week two of the Premier League on Sunday (8/18) evening WIB. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and Chelsea’s right-back, Cesar Azpilicueta was blamed for the failure of his team to earn full points.
Chelsea under Frank Lampard’s care took the lead through Mason Mount’s brace. But in the second half, Wilfred Ndidi equalized when he gored the corner kick taken by James Maddison.
When Ndidi gored the ball, no Chelsea player escorted him. The task of guarding Ndidi should be the work of Azpilicueta, however, the Spanish player reacted late and Leicester’s goal was created.
English football observer, Graeme Souness, also blamed Azpilicueta for the draw at Stamford Bridge. Souness also assessed that the two Chelsea conceded goals against Manchester United occurred because of Azpilicueta.
“Azpilicueta has been a great defender for Chelsea, but he did not know Ndidi was there to score, he just watched the ball (coming),” Souness said, as quoted by Independent.
“He saw the right side of his shoulder and he stopped. He (also) gave two away goals last weekend and also an away goal today (against Leicester) as well.”
Former Chelsea left back, Ashley Cole, added to Souness’s comments on Azpilicueta’s body movement mistake. “Azpilicueta’s body movements were wrong. If he opened his body a little then he could have stop it (Ndidi),” he added.
