Hakan Calhanoglu, AC Milan’s traitor

No doubt when Milan won the title last season, a season after Calhanoglu moved, the Turkish attacking midfielder was in the spotlight and received criticism from Milan fans and players alike.

Milan veteran striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, also criticized Calhanoglu while celebrating the Scudetto with Milan and the fans. Calhanoglu saw it and spoke to Tivibu Spor about Ibrahimovic, who he says is hungry for attention.

“He (Ibrahimovic) is a 40-year-old man, not 18, so I wouldn’t do anything like that at his age. He just likes to be the center of attention. He didn’t contribute to the Scudetto last season, he rarely played, but will do everything to be focused,” Calhanoglu said of Ibrahimovic.

“Besides, he’s the one who always calls me, takes me out to dinner or rides a motorbike. He wrote about me in his book too. He had to write something, or it would be a blank page. Better not bother, to be honest.”

Inter Milan lost in the race for the Scudetto to city rivals last season, after the previous season Il Nerazzurri won the title. However, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter managed to win trophies in the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia.

Calhanoglu scored eight goals and provided 13 assists for his team-mates from 46 competitive games. Looking at last season’s squad, Calhanoglu insisted that Inter was stronger than Milan.

“Inter are a much stronger squad than Milan. We lost in a derby which changed suddenly in the 75th minute after Ivan Perisic and I were substituted,” added Calhanoglu.

“We led 1-0 and then lost 1-2, so the coach contributed to the defeat and I tell him that much. In the Coppa Italia semi-final, we beat Milan 3-0.”
