Having Only Nine Active Players, Italian Club Still Forced to Play

DBasia.news – Sad facts occur in Italy or more precisely in Serie C or the third caste of football in Italy. Casertana was forced to play with limitations against Viterbese last weekend.

When a team plays 11 players, Casertana’s situation is different. They were forced to compete with nine players because 15 players tested positive for the corona virus. Ironically, according to the existing rules, Casertana was forced to play or was subject to sanctions.

Worse yet, some of the players who competed also had symptoms of Covid-19. No doubt Casertana on his official page insinuated the league operators for not giving special rules or exceptions in these conditions.

“These are difficult days, full of fear and concern for all members of Casertana FC and their families. We have a squad destroyed by a dangerous and sneaky virus. As many as 15 positive cases of Covid-19 have been present,” said a statement on Casertana’s official website.

“Given a situation, the dynamics of competition and agonism must provide room for pragmatism. And, instead, hours before the kick-off of the match on matchday 16 Serie C, Casertana FC were forced to heed the refusal of US Viterbese 1908 to reschedule the match in the face of logic that should have existed. Making this an inevitable delay, and Lega Pro himself, who did not think the delay was necessary.”

“In accordance with Article 48, paragraph 3 of NOIF (Italian Football Federation internal rules) which states ‘The obligation to field the best team permitted by its own technical situation’, Casertana FC was forced to take to the field against Viterbese with fewer than 11 players.”

With nine players Casertana could not do much until they finally lost 0-3. On occasion Casertana has offended the Serie C operators for not changing their rules in this particular situation.

“In a historic moment when Italians struggled, indeed they were forced to stay at home, the football team, crushed by an unseen enemy, was forced to take the field at all costs. This is an embarrassing signal for the whole community,” added Casertana.

“Therefore, public health is no longer a priority, but more than any other interest. We apologize to our fans, victims who are helpless like us in the face of such an unreasonable decision.”
