Henry Is Closer to Lead Bordeaux
By news-admin
DBasia.news – The reunion of 1998 World Cup players with France national team might happen in the Ligue 1, France, this season. Patrick Vieira started it by leaving New York City FC and trained Mario Balotelli’s club, OGC Nice.
Now, Thierry Henry has the potential to follow his compatriot to the Ligue 1 and becomes closer to lead Girondins Bordeaux. As reported by AS and Guardian (22/8), the negotiation is going between Henry and Bordeaux who are looking for a new coach after firing Gus Poyet.
Bordeaux fired Poyet because the 50-year-old coach mentioned the board of directors as a shame for selling Gaetan Laborde to Montpeiller without his notice. Besides Henry, Bordeaux also named Remi Garde and Laurent Blanc as the head coach candidates. Both have more experience besides Henry.
However, the lack of experience couldn’t be the barometer to judge the failure of a coach. Henry could see the success of his compatriot, Zinedine Zidane, who was very successful in coaching Real Madrid the past two years. Zidane, just like Henry, is the charismatic figure due to his success as a player.
Henry also has the experience as Roberto Martinez’s coach assistant in the Belgium national team. His presence could be seen in the technical area during the 2018 World Cup. The former Henry’s coach in Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, confirmed his player’s intention to coach Bordeaux.
If Bordeaux really choose Henry as their new coach, it would be the first time for Henry to lead a professional club. Along with the change of Bordeaux’s ownership to M6 Group, Henry will be elected by the new owner of the club who won the Ligue 1 six times, the latest was in 2009 under Blanc era.
