DBasia.news – Adaptation with a new club does not always run smoothly. There are several facts that players must accept and that is experienced by French passport defender Ibrahima Konate at Liverpool.
Accustomed to being a regular defender with RB Leipzig, Konate had to accept the fate of rarely playing at Liverpool who signed him in the summer of 2021 for £36 million.
Konate (22 years) competes with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips in the race for the two central defender positions directed by Jurgen Klopp. So far, Konate has only started four games (including against Manchester United).
The Sochaux academy product admits it is not easy to accept the fact that he rarely plays as a starter, even though Konate did not give up and asked to leave. He tried to work hard to convince Klopp to play him.
“It’s definitely not easy because every player wants to play, isn’t it? But I know I’m young and I need to work to play. I was in Germany and now I am in the Premier League with Liverpool, one of the best teams in the world.
“It’s not easy to come and play automatically at Liverpool. I know Jurgen, I know what he’s doing and of course I have to work. I hope by this time (selected one) it will be automatic. I will work on this.”
“Everything is good. I like challenges and, of course, the Premier League is not the same as German football. The intensity is different and you have a lot of big players here. It’s not easy, but we play football for that.”
Konate also said the target he wants to achieve with Liverpool this season is to win the league title and the potential to win other trophies.
“Of course, who doesn’t have the ambition to win the Premier League? But for now I think we have to focus game by game,” said Konate. “We have the Premier League, we have the Champions League – we have a lot of games, but with this team I think we can do big things this season. Winning both is not easy. But if we can, why not?” he explained.
