Ilkay Guendogan Admits Manchester City In a Difficult Phase

DBasia.news – Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Guendogan admits his team are going through difficult times even though they just won 3-1 win over Porto in the Champions League. Luis Diaz gave Porto the lead at the start of the match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Thursday (22/10), before Sergio Aguero equalized.

Guendogan was an important player as Manchester City turned things around with a free-kick in the 65th before Ferran Torres made it 3-1 eight minutes later.

Despite winning with a convincing score, Guendogan revealed that Man City are currently undergoing a difficult period due to the number of their players being absent. Midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte are out with injury. Fernandinho has a muscle problem in his leg after coming on in the 85th minute against Porto.

“If I’m honest, we have a problem with injuries and losing Fernandinho towards the end of the game is another blow,” said Guendogan.

“Of course, there are others plus some (players) who have just returned and I myself am not fully fit after being hit by Covid-19,” added the former Borussia Dortmund player.

The Citizens manager Pep Guardiola said that De Bruyne and Laporte are expected to return to training on Thursday (local time), but it remains unclear whether they will be ready for Saturday’s Premiere League clash against West Ham.

“I think Kevin and Laporte start training tomorrow, but I don’t know how they will be tomorrow and the following days so we’ll see,” said Guardiola.

“The schedule is very demanding and we need all the players,” he concluded.
