DBasia.news – Vincent Pericard. That’s the name of a player who once supported Juventus in his young career. But, due to one mistake, his career was vanished and declining drastically.
In 2002, Juventus recruited Vincent Pericard from Saint Ettiene. The France player from Cameroon was one of the young players with a bright future.
However, his career was complicated. Never once he played for Juventus main squad. Pericard often played in England. After being on loan to Portsmouth, Pericard moved from one club to another. From Sheffield United, Plymouth Argyle, to Swindon Town.
Recently, Pericard explained what made his career vanished. The 36-year-old player claimed that his career was vanished due to a text message.
It all started when Pericard arrived in Turin. As a part of adaptation, Pericard and other French players got the Italian language course. Apparently, Pericard fell for the beautiful Italian tutor.
“Myself and two other French players at the club were having Italian lessons with a beautiful tutor. One evening we were at home and I sent the teacher a message inviting her round for a drink with us,” Pericard remembered.
“An hour later the phone rang. It was Roberto Bettega, the Juventus vice-chairman. He gave us a b*llocking and asked us who we thought we were to send messages to his girlfriend.”
Yes, the tutor was the girlfriend of Juventus legend who was the vice-chairman at that time, Roberto Bettega.
“We didn’t know she was his girlfriend. We were hauled in for talks, and they loaned me out to Portsmouth,” Pericard, who played for the non-league club in 2015, explained.
Pericard admitted that he regretted that incident. In fact, he thought everything would go well for him in Juventus.
“I have no doubt that without that happening my life would have been totally different.”
After “thrown away” by Juventus, Pericard’s life was changing drastically. Moreover, in 2017, he revealed his sorrow to Daily Mail. Pericard admitted that he felt the depression, and thought to end his life for years.
