DBasia.news – Darren Bent, the former Charlton Athletic striker, predicts the possibility of Jan Vertonghen leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Arsenal.
Vertonghen has a flashy track record while strengthening Tottenham. Since joining in 2012 from Ajax Amsterdam, he has collected 285 appearances. Thanks to his contribution, the club made by Mauricio Pochettino appears stable at the top of the Premier League.
Even so, the club has so far not discussed a new contract with the 32-year player. His work period will expire at the end of this season.
According to Bent, if Tottenham did not extend contact with the Belgian, Arsenal could have hijacked Vertonghen.
“Jan Vertonghen, playing in the center of defense, is there a lot better than him? If you will bring it for free, Arsenal can succeed with it. “If he is free to transfer, don’t be surprised if Arsenal chases him,” Bent said at Soccerway.
“I think this is a situation that Tottenham needs to overcome, but at the same time, I don’t want to see these players leave for free. This is difficult, they are free, they are not going to sign a new contract so what do you do?” Bent added.
Aside from Vertonghen, another Tottenham player whose contract will expire next season is Christian Eriksen. The last name being targeted by Real Madrid.
