DBasia.news – Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said he would step in to call Steven Gerrard for help ahead of Villa against Manchester City. He asked his players to give it their all to tackle City so that Liverpool could ease the way to the title.

Liverpool kept the rivalry with City at the top of the table after beating Southampton 2-1 in Week 37 of the Premier League at St. Mary’s, Wednesday (18/5).

With a point adrift, Liverpool will host Wolves at Anfield in the closing match of the season, Sunday (22/5). Meanwhile City will be challenged by Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

In the 2018/19 season, Pep Guardiola’s squad emerged victorious in an equally epic title race with Liverpool. Now, Hendo admits he will contact his former Liverpool team mate, Steven Gerrard, now Villa’s manager, when he hopes for a different ending.

“It’s challenging. We’ve been in this position before when they played Brighton [1-0 down] and the crowd cheered. You know what happened [a 4-1 win] and it was difficult to focus on the game,” Hendo told Sky Sports.

“Hopefully this experience can be a lesson for us. Now, we can only focus on the game and what we need to do,” said the 31-year-old midfielder.

“Hopefully Stevie and Villa can help us at City [headquarters]. I’d probably give him a call now, seriously!” he added.

City will be eyeing their fourth league trophy in the last five seasons. Meanwhile Liverpool are trying to keep their chances of winning the ‘quadruple’ before the Champions League final against Real Madrid at the Stade de France, a week later.
