DBasia.news – Galatasaray have officially signed Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, who left Old Trafford earlier this summer after his contract expired.
Mata is one of a line of players confirmed by Galatasaray on Thursday (8/9) transfer deadline in Turkey.
Mathias Ross Jensen, Milot Rashica, Mauro Icardi and Yusuf Demir was also signed.
The club have previously signed the likes of Lucas Torreira, Dries Mertens and Haris Seferovic this summer as they look to regain the Turkish Super Lig title.
“Professional footballer Juan Manuel Mata Garcia has signed an agreement for 2 seasons, with the second year being optional. Accordingly, a net fee of 1.9 million euros will be paid to our football player for the 2022/2023 season,” the club said in a statement.
Mata has only played 30 games over the last two seasons, having played at least 30 times in every season of his professional career, including at Valencia, Chelsea and, most recently, Man United.
This move is a big affirmation for Galatasaray, who made the signing of a star player.
Last season was a disaster for the club, with Galatasaray finishing 13th in the league.
They have not won the Super League since winning back-to-back titles in 2017/18 and 2018/19.
After a 2-1 win over Gaziantep on Monday, the club will now face Kasimpasa on Sunday in their next match.
