DBasia.news – Not following in the footsteps of Ander Herrera, who left Manchester United, Juan Mata added his tenure with the club or signed a new contract.
Mata signed a two-year contract with an option to extend a year in the final year of the contract. The Spanish player will be one of the senior players that United retained after releasing Herrera and Antonio Valencia.
For five years strengthening United, Mata has won an FA Cup title, League Cup, Community Shield and Europa League. Experience, maturity and the quality of Mata’s play is believed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s manager, can help young players.
“Juan is a true professional and one of the smartest players I have ever worked with. He is a great example for young players. He understands what it means to be a Manchester United player and understands everything about this great club,” Solskjaer said.
“As good as everything he gives on the match, we also have fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s great experience will help them reach potential in the coming seasons. I’m glad he signed a new contract,” he continued.
Mata was pleased to be able to continue his dedication to Manchester United. The former Valencia and Chelsea player was looking forward to the new season, Solskjaer’s first full season replacing Jose Mourinho last December.
“It is such an honor to continue to represent this great club and our great fans. I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call my Old Trafford home,” Mata added on the club’s official website.
“I look forward to working again with Ole and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision they have for the club is very interesting and I am very happy to be in that section.”
Mata is one of the Spanish players in United’s squad. United’s Spanish trio experienced different conditions. Herrera will leave, Mata adds to his service, and David De Gea is in the middle of a crossroads.
De Gea still has a contract until another season as the club activated the renewal option for a year. But, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper hasn’t signed a new contract and – reportedly – is in demand by PSG. If the situation doesn’t change, De Gea can leave for free in the summer of 2020.
