DBasia.news – RB Leipzig coach, Julian Nagelsmann, admitted he had refused an offer to coach Real Madrid. He considered the offer came too soon.
At the age of 32, Nagelsmann has become one of the coaches with bright prospects in Europe. He currently coaching Leipzig and the team in the race for the Bundesliga title. It is understandable if European clubs are interested in his services.
However, the former Hoffenheim coach did not want to rush to make the decision to move to a big club, as he wanted to develop his abilities first. Nagelsmann finally refused to coach Madrid.
“It’s normal if Real Madrid calls you, you think about it. At first I was surprised, I considered it and I didn’t feel comfortable with the decision to go there. I want to grow. If you go to Real Madrid, there is no time to develop as a manager,” explained Nagelsmann on Goal.
“You don’t have the chance to become a better manager, you have to be the best. I am not the best now, but I can admit that I want to be one of the best in the future.”
“If you go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, the fans, media and decision makers don’t give you time to develop.”
The pressure of coaching a club of Madrid’s caliber, with demands for a trophy each season, plus pressure from fans and the media were seen by Nagelsmann as a reason for refusing to coach the club. Moreover, he does not speak Spanish yet.
“They just want to see victory in every game, title, Champions League trophy. If you don’t win, you can’t say ‘but I’m still young, I’m still developing,'” Nagelsmann added.
“It’s not easy in football to plan a career, as it’s unpredictable, but you have to try.”
“The main thing is to make the right step, not the biggest step. Real Madrid is probably one of the highest steps you can take so I thought “you’re 31 years old, going to Real and where are do you go from there? “
“Another thing is language is very important to me. I like to communicate, I am expressive with my players. I don’t speak Spanish, I can only say, ‘Hola, que tal.’ So that is the biggest step, but not the right step, “he stated.
Nagelsmann did not rule out the possibility of training in England, even though there were tight match schedules and not as much time off as in Germany.
“My normal idea is to stay in Leipzig for four years, but in football you never know what can happen,” Nagelsmann added.
“The Premier League interests me as much as other clubs in the Bundesliga and La Liga, but I have to improve my Spanish first.”
“I know it is challenging in England. I have read (Jurgen) Klopp and (Pep) Guardiola interviews about the intense schedule of matches and the demands of the players and staff.”
“I have a lot of interests outside football like motocross, skiing, and enjoying the experience with my family.”
“In the Premier League, there is no time for anything else. Football, football, football. But there are several clubs that I pay close attention to and the Premier League is the goal for every manager,” he explained.
