Junior Firpo officially leaves Barcelona

DBasia.news – Barcelona continued to sell their players in the summer transfer market. Left-back Junior Firpo has officially been released to Premier League club Leeds United.

“Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Junior Firpo,” read a statement from Leeds on its official website.

“The Whites won the race from several clubs to secure the services of the 24 year old player, who joined from Spanish club FC Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.”

Firpo has been quarantined according to UK health protocols and completed medical tests. The Dominican Republic-born player has signed a contract until the summer of 2025.

Although the amount of the transfer is not stated, ESPN believes that Leeds paid 15 million euros to bring Firpo to Elland Road. In the deal, Barcelona will also receive 20% of the price of Junior Firpo if Leeds is sold in the future.

Firpo started his career with Real Betis before being signed by Barca in 2019. With Los Cules, Firpo has made 41 appearances with two goals and three assists and won one Copa del Rey.

The sale of Junior Firpo fueled Barcelona, who are in dire need of money to reduce their debt burden and control the player’s wage bill. The Spanish international player becomes the fourth player Barca have sold just over a week after Jean-Clair Todibo to Nice (15.5 million euros) and Konrad de la Fuente to Marseille (3 million euros).

However, Barcelona still have a line of players that must be released. They are Neto, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic, Philippe Coutinho and Martin Braithwaite.
