Jurgen Klopp Defends Liverpool’s Formation When Facing Atalanta

DBasia.news – Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp defended the formation of players that changed a lot when his squad lost 0-2 to Atalanta in the Champions League match on Thursday (26/11).

For the match against Atalanta, Klopp made five changes from the usual starting 11. The tight match agenda until the end of the year is his consideration. The result, Liverpool appeared minor, they did not even manage to release a single kick at the opponent’s goal.

On the other hand, two goals from Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens made Atalanta become the first Italian team to win at Anfield since Udinese in a Europa League match in October 2012.

“It is very important we created opportunities and in the end it did not work and that was part of the problem. I will do it again,” said Klopp.

Klopp would have brought on Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson when his team fell behind in the first hour of action, but Atalanta doubled their position four minutes later after the substitution.

“We have had better football moments but not enough. If you don’t get a shot on target then that’s not a good clue,” said Klopp.

Liverpool will still qualify for the last 16 if they win against Ajax Amsterdam next week. But of course it won’t be easy.

“It’s difficult, it sounds easy to beat Ajax but with all the challenges we face in this country it is at the height of the normal challenges we have faced.”

“We left in a few hours to play Brighton. When this match ended we started thinking about Ajax.”
