DBasia.news – Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp was furious after his team didn’t receive a penalty against Southampton. Klopp compared that moment to Manchester United who often obtained penalties.
Liverpool were beaten 1-0 when they visited Southampton headquarters. Danny Ings’ goal in the first half was unable to be replied by Mohamed Salah and his team mates.
Klopp did not accept the defeat. According to him, the leadership of the referee, Andre Marriner and the incompetent use of VAR also had an effect.
According to Klopp, there were at least two incidents that made Liverpool deserving of a penalty kick. The first was a Southampton player’s handball against Georginio Wijnaldum’s shot and the next when Sadio Mane was fouled.
“The best situation can be seen when Sadio Mane gets the ball. However, then there is nothing. If someone says Sadio Mane is a diver, it must be just a joke,” Klopp said as reported by Sky Sports.
“Obviously Mane is trying to stay on his feet. However, I feel there were two situations that should have ended in penalties. I don’t know how to explain. We were out of luck.”
“I asked the fourth referee to check it via VAR. They said they had checked it and there was no penalty,” added Klopp.
Klopp then compared the fate of his team with Manchester United. The Red Devils are considered to easily receive penalties.
“I hear Manchester United have received more penalties in the last two years than we have for five and a half years. I don’t understand and I can’t do much.”
Manchester United have indeed become one of the teams that have received the most penalty kicks. Most recently, the Red Devils’ winning goal against Aston Villa came from the spot after Paul Pogba was considered violated. However, some believe Pogba stumbled on his own foot.
