Jurgen Klopp Is Thankful for Not Seeing Juventus in Champions League Knockout Round

Jurgen Klopp

DBasia.news – Liverpool had a smooth start in the 2018/2019 Premier League. The Reds are unbeaten and currently lead the table with 45 points.

The Reds had a different situation in the Champions League. Surprisingly, they got three defeats against Napoli, Red Star Belgrade, and Paris Saint-Germain. Luckily, Mohamed Salah and friends successfully secured one place in the knockout round after the revenge against Napoli in the decisive match.

Now, in the knockout round, the Anfield club recognized the contender. They would play against the Germany giant who have 5 Champions League titles, Bayern Munchen.

Examining the drawing result, the team manager Jurgen Klopp feels relieved because they don’t have to play against last season finalist, Juventus.

“To be 100 percent honest, for that round, there were only two clubs I did not fancy (getting) really. Dortmund I did not want to meet that early and Juventus,” Klopp said cited by Football-Italia.

“For me they are the favorites for the tournament. They are so experienced. Because of the age group they are, it looks a little bit like the defense’s last chance. It will be really difficult to beat Juve this year,” the 50-year-old manager added.

Apparently, it’s no strange that Klopp wants to avoid Bianconeri in the Champions League because Massimiliano Allegri squad are performing consistently throughout this season. Besides the unbeaten team status in the Serie A, they are also qualified to the knockout round as the group leader.

The knockout round would be conducted from 19th until 21st February. If The Reds play against Die Roten, Juve would face a difficult club as well, the defending champion of Europa League last season, Atletico Madrid.
